Cycling in our area

With local country parks, a major cycle route and the New Forest on our doorstep there are plenty of opportunities for cyclists of all abilities when you stay at Back of Beyond.

Local country parks

In addition to nearby Hurn Forest, there’s a great country park, Moors Valley,  just three miles away. This park offers plenty of cycle routes through the park and into Ringwood Forest. It also has a bike hire centre as well as activities, toilets, a shop and cafe.

The Castleman Trailway

Within 10 minutes of our park there’s a great 16 mile cycle route, the Castleman Trailway. It’s a former railway line connecting Ringwood with Brockenhurst, Wimborne and Poole. This is a useful route for accessing Ringwood and the New Forest or for exploring the local forests and heathlands on the way to Poole.

The New Forest

The New Forest has over 100 miles of off-road trails! See New Forest cycling information, or download the map.

Guided cycle tours from Back of Beyond

Join British Cycling accredited Mountain Bike Leader, Steve Edmed from New Forest Cycling Tours on a guided cycling tour that’s exclusive for Back of Beyond customers.

Bring your bike and equipment (or hire an e-bike for an additional cost) and take the hassle and stresses of reading maps away! You can choose from one of two tours:

Moors Valley Leisure Ride: £30pp

Join us for a 2.5-hour trip starting from Back of Beyond and heading along a section of the Castleman Trailway disused railway line as we head into Moors Valley Country Park. Along the way, expect to ride along roads, gravel tracks and bridleways and no need to worry about directions!

The tour includes a stop at the Moors Valley Visitor Centre and opportunities to take photos along the way. This route is suitable for gravel, mountain, hybrids and e-bikes and will encompass a circular route of 15 miles.

Back of Beyond Adventure Ride to The New Forest: £40pp

For confident riders, we offer an extended ride from Back of Beyond which takes you into the New Forest National Park at Burley. This 27-mile route will take between 4-5 hours including a coffee and cake stop at Burley, where you may get to spot some of the New Forest donkeys and ponies.

This route takes in a mixture of road cycling, forest gravel track and sections of the Castleman Trailway and is suitable for gravel, mountain, hybrid or e-bikes.

This ride can be extended further into the National Park for an additional charge.
